SA economy trapped in the hands of Whites – Sefu Sekgala

DSC_0222The current programs we have to de-racialise our economy will take us 10 generations to achieve that objective if ever.

BBBEE will never achieve that, it actually perpetuate the racialization of the economy. In my view BBBEE is a program to accommodate a class of Black people into the economy, so that an impression is created that there is progress. BBBEE creates Black consumers and not Black entrepreneurs.

My personal view is that Zim is far ahead of SA in terms of this program. A Zim style total destruction of the economy was necessary to allow all of us to contribute in the rebuilding of the economy.

Since 1994 no real Black entrepreneurs emerged. Those tenderpreneurs who managed to make it big, had massive support from White capitalists. A tenderpreneur is an extravagant consumer and not an entrepreneur. Tenderpreneurs do not build brands, they feed aggressively from empowerment programs and government tenders. We cant accept that as progress in the de-racialization of the economy.

The South African economy belongs to White capital and no legislation will change that. The comfort of White capital and Black Tenderpreneurs must be brought to an abrupt end by an emergence of radical and unapologetic politicians.

Until Blacks start investing in their children, they will always be poor.

What in happening now is a clear indication that we need visionery leadership that will come up with better education system that will produce competent entrepreneurs and also spiritual education that will produce spirited or lively citizens.

Idiot – work with the white people to build a economy that will benefit us all! Don’t go the route of Africa – Africa is a total failure and the rest of the world need to support them. South Africa can be different just open your eyes!

  10. Well, what he says is that BEEEE is working for a handful of black tender buddies in cahoots with whichever Govt Dept (no doubt to their enrichment). They in turn do not have the skills so they ship it out to white expertise, and pocket the profit. The biggest issue is greed and corruption, and a govt who employs consultants to advise them on implementing largely ideological policies which have very little basis in actual implementation – because the layered and ineffectual and unqualified Ministers and their management structures have no competence to do so. It all starts with education in my opinion, and until we get that right it is hopeless. The biggest driver of this economy is the Minerals and Mining Sector, which needs skilled technologists,artisans,non-artisans in order to facilitate the output targets required to keep a business afloat. This is a serious problem, most learners enter fields of study where their skills are not in demand, like Human Sciences. Basic Literacy,Numeracy,Interpersonal Skills are the first step towards empowering the children of the future! Never mind Maths and Science qualifications, which seem to be one of the worst in the world! Coupled to this, when expertise is needed (like Eskom etc etc etc) the Govt will not allow skilled white workers who ARE SOUTH AFRICAN to get involved, but would rather hire WHITE and other experts from foreign countries to come and do the job, at an exorbitant cost to the taxpayer and the economy (not to mention brown envelopes). Destroying an economy to ‘start again’ is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, and yes, the issue is leadership, real leadership – not cadres rewarding themselves at the expense of the millions of poor and unemployed people they are supposed to serve!

Stupid remark!!! Perhaps consider being more to the point and say that you want the big pay and luxury life of leisure, because you are entitled, and stop trying to theorise things. Not your strong point at all. I would love to give you a successful business and then bet (and win it) that it will be bankrupt in a year. No wait!!! Done that already – Public Education / Health Services / Policing / Mining companies / Defence / Eskom / SAA / – fuck, what will be next?!

This is where the ANC is failing BIG time!! BEE is just a remedy that will ease the symptoms and not cure the real cause of the problem. The ANC needs a vigorous plan not to take the economy from the whites, but to provide world class education to black people (Who do not have the means to do so themselves), starting from primary school foundations all the way up to University. That way they will not only create entrepreneurs who can actually compete in the global market, but will also eradicate crime and corruption. Its a win-win situation for both white and black people but the problem now whites who were snug in their current positions will have stiff competition for resources..which is essential for a healthy economy at the end of the day.

somehow it sounds like you are trying to attribute lack of progress with the white man again. Look at the president of this country to see what the real problem is. What I see a lot of in this country is black people enriching themselves due to BEE, not using the benefit of BEE to excel in business when all the opportunity is now there. How can the economy of South Africa be trapped in white hands when there are 20 years of ANC to thank for our stagnating economy. When will the black man finally step up and take responsibility for things instead of eternally blaming the white man for everything that is not right, makes me very frustrated. Here’s a sure plan to get the black man into the economy, in theory:

    – Start with a government that does not sit on it’s arse and waste money.
    – Create many programmes to get black people into schools and universities, spend money here because it’s necessary, and education is *everything*, it has to start here.
    – Create jobs for the current population that might not have that much education, spend some money here also, lets take the probable few billion rand that the presidency spends on it’s annual events, travel and home improvements to help fund this
    – Perhaps inject as much money into the police force as is possible.

There, here is a plan to get everyone into the economy and fix the country, I doubt this government will ever do this, because self enrichment is so much more enjoyable for them than helping the people and the country.

An added bonus, try to get the black people to stop blaming the white people for things that happened almost a quarter century ago, rather see the situation and fix it as it is very possible to do so, given some hard work is done, which is also not quite likely to happen

    So how’s that?…

  14. I agree with you that tenderpreneur’s are extravagant consumers and not entrepreneurs. But who’s fault is that?
I have watched 2 companies I did business with collapse after being taken over in black empowerment deals facilitated by the NEF. Both companies were taken over by senior black management who had worked for the company’s for +- 10years. One of the companies collapsed after 18 months and 80 people lost their jobs. The other took a little longer, 26 Months and 40 people lost their jobs. Now 2 other smaller white owned company’s in the industry are smiling all the way to the bank. The sales manager from the first company that folded told me that it was the second company he had worked for that had collapsed after being taken over in a black empowerment deal. As a black man himself, he said he would never again work for a black owned company. So again I ask you… who’s fault is it?
And if you think collapsing the economy is a solution, you are clearly a person who is part of the current problem. Economy’s take years to build and your skewed view on Zimbabwe is a clear indication that you should never be a leader of anything.
Zimabawe is no different to S.A when it comes to the politically connected elite being benefactors. I know because I have done business with these people from Zim and have had first hand experience of how things things work there. The ordinary man on the ground has nothing and thousands are in abject poverty.

Black people in this country need to change there mind set. If they want to live and operate like Europeans then they need to start thinking like them when it comes to business, otherwise collapse the economy and go back to living off the land and forget about driving cars, tarred roads, flushing toilets, piped water & electricity. Forget about banks, metropolitan cities, television, radio, currency and off course jobs…..You won’t need any of it.

The levels of rational thought and insight combined with abject stupidity in this column are staggering. This is such an “African” view; destroy everything that has been built so as to reduce everybody to the lowest common denominator instead of moving forward. The thing you miss is that the current SA economy and white capital in it are a tiny fraction of the potential economic value tied up in this country, the real challenge is to unleash that potential to build wealth for everyone and to ensure that that growth is skewed to PDI’s taking the lions share. The problem is that the ANC policies over the past 20 years have looked at what is in place now and tried to redistribute instead of putting in place mechanisms and education that can accelerate growth in future of amongst other things entrepreneurship. There are Asian economies (South Korea, Hong Kong) and even Mauritius which have seen the way forward and grown their economies 1000% as a result……SA has been left behind…driven by the ANC.
