The African National Congress Secretary General, Comrade Gwede Mantashe announced the outcomes of the visit of the National Leadership to the Nelson Mandela Region today, 18 May 2015. Three of the top four positions of the Municipality have been changed.
The New Mayor of Nelson Mandela will be Comrade Danny Jordaan. His Deputy will be Comrade Bicks Ndoni.
The ANC will effect changes in the Mayor committee, including restructuring some Directorates.
Dr Daniel ‘Danny’ was born on the 3rd of September 1951 in Port Elizabeth. He joined the South African Students’ Organisation (SASO) in the early 1970s and became involved in anti-apartheid activities. He later became a member of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the African National Congress (ANC).
In 1990, Comrade Danny Jordaan was elected chairperson of an ANC branch in Port Elizabeth. He was appointed as a director of the Cape Town Olympic Bid Company in 1993. Following the 1994 elections, he became a Member of Parliament for the ANC. He held this position until 1997.
In 1997, Dr Danny Jordaan was elected Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South African Football Association (SAFA). He was elected CEO of the South African 2010 Organising Committee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The ANC has full confidence in Dr Danny Jordaan and the people of Nelson Mandela Bay as they battle the challenges that have confronted that region in the recent past.
