The African National Congress holds in high regard the good work done by the Global Watch initiative in curbing racism and discrimination in Sports. The initiative founded by former ANC NEC member, Comrade Tokyo Sexwale, has seen large numbers of people across the world coming together against the scourge of discrimination in sports.
This global movement, underpinned by Comrade Tokyo’s lifelong commitment to fighting discrimination in his native South Africa and elsewhere, has united voices throughout the world in a single call “No To Racism-Discrimination in Sport” It is for this reason, among others, that the ANC supports and wishes Comrade Tokyo Sexwale well in his candidature for FIFA Presidency.
Comrade Tokyo Sexwale has distinguished himself as a dedicated leader with an impressive credentials in business, governance in general and in football particularly. He has served as the Premier of Gauteng, South Africa’s economic powerhouse and most populous province. He further served as Minister of Human Settlements in the 4th Administration.
During the 2010 World Cup, Comrade Sexwale was as a member of the Preparatory Committee and the Board of Directors of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He is a member of FIFA’s Task Force Against Racism and Discrimination and led FIFA’s monitoring committee to oversee issues affecting the development of football in Palestine. Comrade Sexwale is also a Trustee of the Nelson Mandela Foundation . It is this varied experience we believe will stand him in good stead at the helm of the world’s football governing body.
