The African National Congress congratulates one of South Africa’s finest, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known as Black Coffee, for winning the Black Entertainment Television (BET) award in Los Angeles, on Saturday 25 June 2016. Black Coffee made history by becoming the first South African to win the prestigious Best International Act: Africa award.
Black Coffee has created and packaged uniquely African offerings to export to great successes internationally, a feat that countless artists, and other entrepreneurs, at home and across the globe would draw inspiration and wisdom from. The ANC government continues to create opportunities within creative industries for local artists to thrive. Maphumulo’s achievements clearly demonstrate that given such opportunities, there can be no limit to what an African child can achieve.
We equally congratulate all other South African artists who were also nominated for various BET award categories for the year 2016, including Kiernan Forbes (AKA), Refilwe Phoolo (Cassper Nyovest) and Mthembeni Ndevu (Emtee).
The South African entertainment industry is on the rise. Siyaqhuba! Indeed, South Africa is proud today because of these artists and others who have been gracing the international stage for years.
