Dear Members of the Media

The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) under the auspices of the CBF of the DTI have for the past two days from the 5th of February 2020, have been engaging on a protected industrial action.
The industrial actions are taking place across the affected areas of the following DTI entities.
Entity:
South African Bureau of Standards – SABS
National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications – NRCS
National Consumer Commission – NCC
South African National Accreditation System – SANAS
National Metrology Institute of South Africa – NMISA
National Lotteries Commission –NLC
The issues that have resulted in the NEHAWU acquiring the certificate as mandated by our members are as following:
75% of medical aid
Housing allowance of R2000
Insourcing of all Security and cleaning personnel in these entities
13th cheque
Pension fund
8.5% annual increase
All these demands must be implemented across all of the 13 entities of the DTI.
The NEHAWU condemns in the strongest terms the intimidation of NEHAWU members who are on strike by the management of some entities. It was expected though that such scare tactics would be used by management of these entities.
We urge all our members to remain resolute and strong. Victory will be ours.
NEHAWU also welcome the dismissal of the SABS caretaker CEO Garth Strachan in the wake of this strike.
Aluta Continua!
Amandla!!!
